About this Portfolio
In the past, Monash BEST has approached us to virtualise their Tunnel Boring Machine (MNET’s first ever portfolio!).
Current MBEST president Tony Mladenovik has approached us with a new collaboration opportunity for MNET.
MBEST is currently working on ways to increase student engagement for Civil teams. There is going to be a showcase night 7th May (6:00 to 8:30 pm) involving the Civil Engineering Faculty, Academic supervisors & Civil Eng teams (MBEST, MSB, MCAV, Aces, Possible Wem Showcase). The night will mainly be focused on the student teams and their achievements rather than any Industry expectations, with student teams mainly showcasing tech demos.
The latest model (Gaia 1) has 3 Layers that MBEST would like to showcase.
This project will come under technical CPD and therefore is open to engineers within our projects team.
Current Goals:
Ensure no parts of the model is interlocking
Reducing the size of the object so that it is not too intensive to run on a VR headset
Getting access to a stockpile (Number TBD) of VR Headsets for the showcase night
Adding animations to the machine which can be triggered on/off by the user
The user should be able to ‘hold’ the model, spin it around and view the working parts.
The model should have different ‘skins’ showcasing the different layers of the machine. The user will be able to click on which layer they want to view
(Think of google maps when you view different levels of a building)
Future Ideas:
Creating a website for the 3D model to be viewed that can be shown on both the MBEST and MNET websites, giving this project a lasting legacy that anyone can access on a computer
Creating this website as well in WEBXr
‘Exploded View’ Where the models parts are blown up so that the user can see all layers at once
Transparent animations when switching between layers
